Studies on Semiconductors (I) On the Rectifying Characteristics of Cobalt Sulphide

Abstract:

The semiconductors, such as Si, Ge, Se, Cu2O and Cu2S, have the excellent rectifying characteristics. Now the present authors have obtained some other new semiconductors having high rectifying ratio under proper conditions. Cobalt sulphide is one of them. The present paper deals with the effects of material of cathode and anode, surface treatment of cathodes and heat treatments of CoS on the rectifying characteristics of the cobalt sulphide rectifier. The results obtained are as follows :
(1) The effect of cathode metal ; Al(30%)-Mg(70%) alloy has the best rectifying ratio.
(2) The effect of anode metal ; Bi, Sn and C show good results.
(3) The effect of surface treatment of cathode ; Oxidizing treatment of the surface of cathode gives good results.
(4) The effect of heat treatment of CoS ; The electrical resistance of CoS increases by heat treatment in vacuum while decreases by heating in sulphur vapour.
