A Supplementary Report of the Cu-Sn Equilibrium Diagram

Abstract:

Constructing a high. temperature X-ray camera of the Seemann-Bohlin type, an investigation of the high temperature structure of the phases of Cu-Sn alloys was carried out. Following are the results obtained by the present experiment. Bothβ and γ have the same body centered cubic lattice, and no discontinuous change of lattice parameter was found with the change of temperature as well as concentration. Atomic rearrangement like “Superstructure” is suspected to be the real cause of the β_??_γ transformation. Quite the same thing is said as to the transformation 175° of ξ phase. The decomposition of δ phase into a+η at nearly 325°, lately discovered by Owen, was also confirmed by the present work. The structures of ε and η at high temperature were ascertained to be the same as those investigated by other workers with the quenched specimens.
