Research in Pb-Sn-S (Part I). On the Activity Coefficient of Sulphur in Molten Lead

Abstract:

The reduction equilibrium of sulphur in molten lead by hydrogen was investigated in the temperature range of 800∼950°C. It is concluded that sulphur in molten lead may be regarded as an ideal solution within the limit of experiment. Experimental results are summarized as follows:

S(% in Pb)+H2 H2S;
K=PH2S/PH2[S% in Pb]=Kp/[S% in Pb],
log K=-2,243/T+0.342,
Δ F°=10,285-1.565T
By combining the dissociation equilibrium of hydrogen sulphide with the above results, the following results were obtained:
2S(% in Pb) S2; K'=PS2/[S% in Pb]2,
log K'=-13,949/T+5,838,
Δ F°=63,817-26.709T.
