Effects of Gas on the Properties of Aluminium and Its Alloys (2nd Report)

Harero Iwamura, Nobuo Shiota and Choei Onozaki

Abstract:

In succession to the previous report of the effect of gas on the properties of aluminium and its alloys, the behaviour of gas in aluminium and its alloys has been determined in the present investigation by means of the impact test and corrosion tester. The addition of a small amount of hydrogen has considerable effect on their properties. The volumetric analyses is not carried out. It improves some of the properties of them, but these are comparatively significant when compared with those of the ordinary aluminium and its alloys. The difference of the said properties appears to have some relation to the behaviour of hydrogen atom, which is considered to be in solid solution or to be in compound (AlH) with aluminium and its alloys.
Although a number of investigators have studies the problem of gas in aluminium and its alloys, little attention has previously been given to the authors view.
