The effects of Si and Al on the graphitization of white cast iron are studied.
The lattice parameter of cementite varies as Si or Al contents measured by means
of X-ray analysis and A0 point also by magnetic analysis.
Some contraction of white cast iron occur followed by expansion due to the graphitization at a constant temperature (for example,at 900°),at the end of the graphitization, contraction can be found also by differential dilatometer.Such contraction can not be found in the case of Si rich specimen, owing to the beginning of the graphitization during heating the specimen to the constant temperature.Si and Al accelerate the precipitation of graphite from austenite.
